The spectroelectrochemical cell is a transparent electrochemical cell device designed for real-time spectroscopic characterisation of electrochemical reactions happening on the surface of the electrode under applied potential. The spectroelectrochemical cell features an all-quartz cuvette with high transmission across the UV–Vis–NIR spectrum from 220 nm to 2500 nm. The spectroelectrochemical cell adopts a three-electrode system of a working electrode, a platinum counter electrode and a silver chloride reference electrode. The working electrode is either platinum mesh or platinum plate electrode holder secured film electrode.

The spectroelectrochemical cell is suitable for in-situ UV-Vis and Raman spectroscopy studies of the chemical reactions in the electrochemical cuvette cell, capturing the chromic, spectroscopic, structural and surface changes in reaction intermediates and products at the electrode-solution interface. It finds applications in monitoring electrode surface changes, studying reaction mechanisms, oxidation-state tracking, and analysing structural changes in materials for catalysis, batteries, fuel cells and biomedical research.
