Speed up your research while improving the repeatability of your results with an automated colony counter at a budget-friendly price point. The Ossila Colony Counter with colony counting software provides a complete system for quick, easy, and accurate data collection and analysis.
The colony counter hardware provides a standardized platform for taking clear, high-resolution images of your petri dishes with a fixed-height HD camera and three LED-powered lights. For quick and simple analysis, the PC software can automatically detect when a petri dish is present, count the number of colonies, and rapidly calculate the colony-forming unit (CFU). You can also analyze your sample by area and add, remove, split, or merge colonies in software as required.
When you're ready, just add your notes and save your analysis or generate a report and move on to your next sample. No more counting by hand, marking plates, or getting different results each time you count the same sample.

Colony Counter Features

Count Colonies on Any Standard Petri Dish
The versatile workhorse of your microbiology lab, the Ossila Colony Counter supports any petri dish with a diameter from 55 to 90 mm. The unit itself has a small benchtop footprint of 256 mm x 222 mm x 256 mm for when space is at a premium.

Accurately Detect Colonies as Small as 0.2 mm
Capture clear images of your samples with the 12 MP camera by illuminating your petri dish from above, below, the side, or any combination of the three. Configure the lighting according to the type of colony you are counting to eliminate shadows and optimize the contrast in your images.

Take the Randomness Out of Your Counting
Save time and improve accuracy by automating your colony counting. Take consistent and directly comparable images and measurements of different samples, and reduce the room for human error in your experiments.

Maintain Control Where You Need It
Take a quick count or automatically group your counts by color to count populations separately on chromogenic media. Stay in control of the final result with the ability to exclude swarming colonies or contamination and add, remove, split, or merge colonies where growth is overlapping.

Quickly Analyze Results and Generate Reports
Create custom fields and add notes about each sample without leaving the software, then save your analyses to come back to later or generate a report to keep track of your results across multiple experiments.
Free Colony Counting Software
The Ossila Colony Counting software makes it quick and easy to count bacterial and fungal colonies and calculate the CFU by volume, with built-in analysis tools at your fingertips to help you process and log your results. Get started in minutes, or use the advanced software controls to fine tune your colony counting settings. Support for multiple profiles makes it easy to swap between different samples or work in a shared space.

Colony Counting: Method and Tips
Manual colony counting can be tedious and choosing the right colony counter overwhelming. This means it is important for you to understand the benefits and limitations of both automatic and manual colony counters.
Read more...Colony morphology describes the characteristics of cultures. It refers to characteristics visible to the naked eye of both bacterial and fungal colonies growing on an agar plate. It helps researchers to choose the appropriate confirmatory tests. While the methods might look simple, careful observation and examination of colony characteristics are essential in microbiology.
