Our narrow-shaft reference electrodes are available in 4.0 mm and 2.3 mm. Ideal for researchers working with constrained sample volumes, non-standard electrochemistry hardware, or where traditional 6.0 mm probes cannot fit. Available in both aqueous (Ag/AgCl) and non-aqueous (Ag/Ag⁺) configurations, they provide the same trusted electrochemical stability as our standard range of reference electrodes in a compact form factor.
Proper storage is recommended. To avoid ruining the internal solution and clogging the junction, avoid drying out your electrodes. To protect essential ions and maintain accurate readings, avoid storing or rinsing in pure deionized or distilled water. Cap the filling holes to prevent evaporation, and keep away from extreme temperatures to prevent cracking or crystallization.
These electrodes feature a narrow 2.3 mm or 4.0 mm outer diameter shaft. This is significantly thinner than standard 6.0 mm electrodes and will not fit or seal securely in standard electrochemical cell ports.

How To Prepare a Reference Electrode
The reference electrode has a white cap which holds the silver or silver/silver chloride wire. The cap is detachable with a gentle force. Hold the glass tube and twist the white cap gently and pull it away from the glass tube. The glass tube is delicate so do not apply a strong force while holding the glass tube.
