Shims and meniscus guides to control the flow of solution through your slot die head. Shims to vary the coating width for your deposition. You can also stack multiple shims to increase the deposition channel width to optimize the flow of solution through the head. To improve the edge quality, meniscus guides can be added, which stop the meniscus from spreading along the width of the head. For more specific requirements, we also offer custom coating guides which allow for multi strip coatings.
We would recommend using both at least a meniscus guide and a shim with our slot-die coater to ensure the best coating.

Shim and Meniscus Guide Specifications
When selecting which shims and meniscus guides to use, please note:
- Slot Die Head width (50 mm or 100 mm)
- Viscosity range: Standard (0 - 1000 cPs) or high viscosity (1000 - 10000 cPs).
- Desired Coating Width
- Thickness
- Lip Depth (Meniscus only)
A range of coating width, thickness and lip depths are available for each shim design. We also offer custom options and designs to enable multi-strip coatings.
The high viscosity slot die coater requires high viscosity shims and meniscus guides.
| Feature | Effect |

| Coating Width | Defines the wet coating width. For best coating, meniscus and shim coating widths should be complimentary (i.e. 75 mm shim with 75 mm meniscus guide). |
| Viscosity | The high viscosity and standard viscosity shims/meniscus guides are designed with different distribution manifolds, which are optimized for different solution viscosities. Using the correct shim/meniscus guide helps maintain a uniform pressure drop, creating a uniform flow rate accorss the slot die head. |
| Shim/Meniscus Thickness | Defines the volume of the coating channel (along with coating width and height) which controls pressure drop across the slot-die head. Channel thickness has a cubic relationship with pressure drop, and the channel width is the easiest dimension to change in the slot die head. |
| Lip Depth (Meniscus guide) | The meniscus will form at the end of the meniscus lip. The lip depth will determine how far from the slot die head the meniscus will form. |
