Gas Diffusion In-situ Raman Electrochemical Cell Assembly
Captions
- This cell has three parts, and all ports are clearly marked
- Top part: Allows the laser beam to reach the GDE through the optical window and electrolyte
- Bottom part: Allows gas to diffuse into the GDE as it passes through the flow channel
- The cell geometry is designed to minimise the electrolyte layer
- Gaskets of different thicknesses (FKM and silicone) are provided to adjust the electrolyte layer height and achieve the required optical path length
- Use headless screws for easy alignment
- FKM and silicone gaskets are provided. Note: A windowless gasket is also provided to cover the flow field when using the cell in an H-cell configuration
- Make sure to cut the GDE larger than the flow field Example: Here, a 2 cm × 2 cm catalyst-coated carbon paper is placed over a 1 cm × 1 cm flow field. See our website for suitable substrates
- Copper foil can be attached either on top of or underneath the GDE. If attaching from underneath, make sure the foil does not cover the flow field, and use Kapton tape to secure it. This demonstration uses copper foil only
- For a proper seal, we recommend using a torque wrench and increasing the torque gradually, moving from bolt to bolt in a star pattern (not demonstrated here)
- Counter electrode compartment assembly
- Place your membrane between the gaskets
- Make sure the membrane is pretreated (if required) before placing it
- You can use headless screws for easy alignment
- Tighten the screws firmly to prevent leaks
