Slot Die Coater Air Knife for Controlled Drying Conditions
Choose between an adjustable bracket or an independent mounting system for optimized air flow angle and distance
Overview | Specifications | Gallery
Our adjustable air knife gives you the ability to control the drying of films produced with the Ossila Slot Die Coater. The Ossila Standard Air Knife attaches directly to the slot-die coater head with an adjustable positioning bracket. With this, you can vary the distance between the substrate and airflow and the angle of the air curtain for optimized drying conditions.
The High Precision Air Knife is specially designed with an overlapping lip and customizable quenching width, eliminating turbulence, mitigating air backflow, and also provides a uniform air stream across the entire length. The isolated mounting system allows you to adjust the quenching gap and the quenching angle over a larger range than the standard air knife. Additionally, you can vary the distance of this Precision Air Knife from the slot die head. The Z-axis Tension System ensures the air knife sits exactly where you need it while the Geared Clamp Design provides flexibility for angular positioning without pivoting or sagging during operation.
Both air knife designs are compatible our 50 mm and 100 mm slot die heads. With the 4 mm push-fit adapter (or 6 mm push fit adapter for high precision unit), you can quickly connect your air knife to a compressed air or pressurized gas line, such as nitrogen for inert gas quenching.

The Coandă Effect
The design of the Standard air knife utilizes the Coandă effect. Air exiting the slit between the two parts of the knife remains attached across the convex curved surface, resulting in a pressure drop that entrains additional air into the flow. This results in a multiplier effect in which the air flow within the air curtain is higher than that exiting the slit.
Reducing Air Turbulance With High Precision System
Air turbulence and gas backflow are among the most critical challenges of the gas quenching technique when using conventional air knives, as they cause pre-drying and non-uniformity along the length of the film. Our precisely engineered air knife system ensures that you achieve uniformly quenched, high-quality films over a large area.
