EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) is a synthetic copolymer of ethylene, propylene, and ethylidene norbornene. With high tensile strength and elasticity, our EPDM gaskets provide great electrical insulation and are highly resistant to aging, water, steam, weather, ultraviolet radiation, and ozone. With a low compression set, our EPDM gaskets remain highly flexible at temperatures ranging from -45°C to 150°C.
Ideal for MEA electrolyzers and GDE flow cells, our EPDM gaskets act as a seal to prevent reactant gas and electrolyte leaking, control mechanical compression across the active area, and secure fragile ion exchange membranes in position protecting them from stress and damage during assembly processes and electrochemical reactions.
EPDM exhibits excellent resistance to alkalis such as sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide. At normal temperatures it handles dilute and moderately concentrated alkaline solutions well, making it ideal for water treatment, chemical processing, and electrochemical cell settings. EPDM gaskets are preferred to other commonly used materials (PTFE and FKM) to handle alkaline conditions in MEA electrolyzers and GDE flow cells.
