Inside Ossila’s New Nottingham Metrology Site

Ossila has expanded to a second UK site in Nottingham. This expansion marks an exciting new chapter for Ossila, as this site is the dedicated home of our rapidly growing precision metrology team.
Nottingham is a city with a rich history of discovery and a world-class scientific community. Located close to the University of Nottingham’s Park Campus, this facility places our researchers, engineers, and programmers at the heart of an active research ecosystem.
Our Nottingham team’s primary mission is the design, software development, and manufacture of a next generation suite of metrology equipment. By embedding our team directly within the thriving, academic heart of the research community, we can stay in the loop about what academic researchers want from their equipment. This means we can further our mission to make it easier, more efficient, and more affordable for scientists around the world to push the boundaries of high-performance characterization tools.

Our new Nottingham site is actively driving innovation across essential material science workflows, with particular focus on precision instruments:
- For accurate surface topography and film thickness measurements.
- To support nanotechnology and formulation research.
- For advanced thin-film characterization.
Our Nottingham Expansion ensures our instrumentation software engineers and product developers can closely collaborate on exciting new hardware. This leads to more robust, reliable, and user-friendly testing equipment for researchers working in Photovoltaics, green energy batteries, and smart materials science.
With our main manufacturing hub in Sheffield, our EU office in Leiden and now our specialized metrology base in Nottingham, we are better equipped than ever to support the global scientific community across more than 100 countries.
