Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs) Terphenyl Ligand

A trigonal shaped ligand linker for covalent organic frameworks (COFs) in application of carbon dioxide adsorption, nitroaromatic sensing and gas separation

1,3,5-tri(4-aminophenyl)benzene (TAPB) has three 4-aminophenyl groups attached to a benzene ring at meta-positions. It is widely used as a tritopic ligand linker for the construction of porous polymeric covalent organic frames (COFs).

Porous polyimide COF PAF-120, derived from 1,3,5-tris(4-aminophenyl)benzene and naphthalene-1,4,5,8-tetracarboxylic dianhydride by condensation reaction to form imide linkers, demonstrates great thermal and chemical stability with selective adsorption of C2H2 over C2H4 and CO2 over N2. COF-2, a COF with three components of 2,5-divinylterephthaldehyde, biphenyl dialdehyde and 1,3,5-tris(4-aminophenyl)benzene, shows efficient adsorption of bisphenol S (BPS) and bisphenol A (BPA) due to the hydrogen bonding and π–π interactions.

Similar to the crystalline inorganic materials and outperforming that of the state-of-the-art conductive COFs in its conductivity, organic semiconducting 2D TAPB–TFB COF thin film shows high photoconductivity with a long charge scattering time exceeding 70 fs at room temperature, which corresponds to a record high charge carrier mobility of 165 ± 10 cm2 V–1 s–1.
