Titanium nitride (CAS number 25583-20-4) is an advanced ceramic material composed of titanium and nitrogen. It is a hard ceramic, exhibiting a hardness of 31 ± 4 GPa. Titanium nitride has high electrical conductivity, ranging from 4000 to 55500 S/cm, and features high thermal stability and corrosion resistance due to the strong covalent bond between titanium and nitrogen. In combination with polypyrrole and corn straw, titanium nitride is used for fabricating biochar-based anode for microbial fuel cells. Such fuel cells achieve a minimum solution resistance of 7.80 Ω and a charge transfer resistance of 1.79 Ω.

Titanium nitride has been employed as a cathode material in lithium-sulfur batteries. The resulting battery cells demonstrate a high initial capacity of 1524 mAh/g and a good capacity retention over 100 cycles at C/10. Titanium nitride is also applied as an additive for composite separators in aqueous zinc-ion battery. Titanium nitride/cellulose nanofiber separator displays exceptional cycling lifetimes of 2500 h at 0.5 mA/cm2 and 1000 h at 5 mA/cm2.
