Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) nanopowder, CAS number 10043-11-5, is also referred to as “white graphene” with a layered honeycomb structure based on sp2 covalent bonds. Properties include excellent thermal conductivity and stability. As a result, h-BN nanoparticles can dissipate heat generated by the quantum dots (QDs) in white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs). The resulting working temperature of WLEDs is reduced by 22.7 °C at 300 mA, while maintaining a high luminous efficiency of 108.5lm/W. Boron nitride nanopowder is also used in lithium batteries, improving heat dissipation for the separator and preventing thermal runaway.

Hexagonal boron nitride is considered both an insulator and a semiconductor. As an insulator, it is widely used as a sub-layer material for any other 2D material in electronic devices. As a semiconductor, it has been confirmed that bulk h-BN has a wide indirect bandgap of 5.955 eV.
