With large branched side-chains, 4,9-Dibromo-2,7-bis(2-octyldodecyl)benzo[lmn][3,8]phenanthroline-1,3,6,8(2H,7H)-tetraone, CAS number 1100243-35-3, (also known as NDI2OD-Br2) adds solubility to the polymer semiconductors by functioning as repeating units in the back-bone. Also, polymers with NDI2OD-Br2 have the tendency to crystallise when they are built into films to boost device performance.
Being electron deficient, 1,4,5,8-naphthalenediimides (NDIs) and their derivatives have the tendency to form n-type semiconductor materials when they are incorporated into multicomponent assemblies.
