A cathode active material for sodium ion battery

with a layered structure for high discharge capacity and energy density

Overview | Product Information | Related Products

Sodium nickel iron manganese oxide (CAS number: 1307699-76-8) is a layered transition metal oxide used as cathode active material in sodium ion batteries. Sodium nickel iron manganese oxide contains three transition metals in the ratio of nickel : iron : manganese = 1 : 1 : 1. The layered structure of sodium nickel iron manganese oxide facilitates the intercalation and deintercalation of sodium ions upon discharging and charging processes.

Each transition metal in sodium nickel iron manganese oxide plays an distinct role in the performance of the cathode material. Nickel supplies high capacity and elevates the average operating voltage. Iron increases the voltage and improves the structural stability by reducing the fraction of Jahn-Teller active Mn3+ through charge balance. Manganese enhances structural stability, as Mn4+ minimises structural distortion.

Sodium nickel iron manganese oxide exhibits high-rate capability, delivering a discharge capacity of 110 mAh/g at 10C room temperature.
