P(g2T-T) is a polythiophene derivative functionalized with methoxy-terminated triethylene glycol (TEG) chains. The polythiophene backbone allows for chain flexibility and the polar TEG side chains for the penetration of hydrated ions.

A high-performance, stretchable redox-active semiconducting polymer (RASP), P(g2T-T) is desirable for organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs), i.e. bioelectronics. With great stretchability and skin softness compatibility, it has great potential to achieve seamless tissue–electronics interfaces for accurate signal acquisition in on-skin electrocardiogram recording. With a nonlinear backbone architecture and a moderate side-chain density, P(g2T-T) shows an outstanding stretchability over 200% strain and 5,000 repeated stretching cycles. An intrinsically stretchable OECT based on this polymer semiconductor demonstrates high normalized transconductance of ~ 223 S cm−1 and biaxial stretchability up to 100% strain.
