Electrochemical Cell with Luggin Capillary
Glass Cell with Luggin Capillary for Reference Electrode
Increase the accuracy of your potential measurements
Specifications | Benefits of a Luggin Capillary | In the Box | Pricing | Gallery | Related Products | Technical Support
The Electrochemical Cell with Luggin Capillary combines our standard three-electrode glass cell with a Luggin capillary (or Luggin probe) for the reference electrode. This capillary positions the reference electrode closer to the working electrode, increasing accuracy of potential measurements. The salt bridge tip facilitates ion movement, while maintaining separation between the reference solution and the bulk electrolyte. Additionally, this cell comes with a gas inlet with bubble filter that prevents gas shock or bubbling in the solution when introducing inert gases.
Alongside the Electrochemical Cell with Luggin Capillary, the kit includes a set of electrodes: a platinum disc working electrode, a platinum wire counter electrode, and a reference electrode (either aqueous AgCl or aon-aqueous Ag/Ag+).

Benefits of a Luggin Capillary
A Luggin capillary is a small tube filled with electrolyte in which the reference electrode is suspended.
The accurate measurement of potential between the working and reference electrode is vital for many electrochemical experiments. Any uncompensated resistance, such as solution resistance between the working electrode and reference electrode tip, will reduce the accuracy of potential measurements. The curve of the Luggin Capillary allows the reference electrode bridge to be positioned closer to the working electrode, minimizing uncompensated resistance.
