Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) powder is also referred to as “white graphene” with a layered honeycomb structure based on sp2 covalent bonds.

Hexagonal boron nitride is both considered as an insulator and a semiconductor. As an insulator, it is widely used as a sub-layer material for any other 2D material in electronic devices. As a semiconductor, it has been confirmed that h-BN has an indirect bandgap of 5.955 eV.

High purity (>99.7%) hexagonal boron nitride powders suitable for recrystalisation and exfoliation are available in nano and micro sizes. Few-layer boron nitride nanosheets can be achieved by the exfoliation of bulk h-BN powder in the presence of poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) or sodium perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylate as dispersion and stabilization agents in water.
