Useful Organic Electronics Resources

Links pages may be rather old fashioned, but we've found the sites below very useful for our own work and not always easy to find on Google. We hope they are useful to you too.

Solar cell efficiency tables

There's always lots of hype and spin about who's got the biggest headline figure. Cut through all that with the list of NREL certified devices with areas over 1 cm^2. It also has the data for a whole host of other technologies which can also be useful. Updated twice yearly, the current version is Solar Cell Efficiency Tables Number 39 which contains the first certified 10% efficient OPV. NREL also produce a chart of efficiency over time for different technologies here.

Photovoltaic Measurements

In the early days of organic photovoltaics it was hard to get accurate efficiency measurements. Lab scale solar simulators were expensive and hard to come by, calibrated reference cells were like hens teeth, and aperture masks were not widely used. As such there were a few dubious figures in the literature and a degree of sceptisicism was creeping into the field. To counter this, Giles Dennler wrote an open letter to the organic photovoltaics community which was signed by twenty leading academics in the field and serves as a reminder about the care needed when reporting results. On a more positve note this lead to several excellent papers on device measurement including this one by Yang Yang and Keith Emery's groups and this one by Brabec and Cravino's groups (there are also plenty of other excellent papers on this topic). More recently there is now work ongoing to reach a consensus on stability testing.

McGeehee modelling software

We've found the McGeehee group transfer matrix model extremely useful and would thoroughly recommend it as a great way to get into modelling. Written by George F. Burkhard, Eric T. Hoke it is available free of charge under GNU license. Command line based but easy to use and with a reference library of common n-k values (including ITO, PEDOT and PSS, P3HT and PCBM) this is a great way to get started with optical modelling, especially if you have access to an ellipsometer to generate your own n-k data.

Upcoming conferences

Orgworld has a constantly updated list of all the major organic electronics conferences around the world. It also has a list of organic electronics companies.

Vacuum deposition tables

Oh the joys of vacuum deposition. Make life a bit easier with the materials deposition tables from Lesker . They provide the temperatures required for a given material as well as a recommended crucible/coil type. We use these pages as the starting point for deposition of any new material.

OSA direct

While there are lots of sites you can look at for organic electronics news, we love OSA's weekly Friday afternoon email digest of who's doing what in the world of organics. Always worth a look to see if there is anything interesting happening.
