The Ossila Single Syringe Pump
The Ossila Single Syringe Pump

The Ossila Single Syringe Pump is an affordable, high-precision, fully programmable instrument. Our design makes the automatic dispensing of solutions an effortless part of your experimental process. Both the single syringe pump and dual pump model feature built-in software and a simple-to-use interface that provides intuitive control, making experiments easy to set up.

Equipped with a universal syringe clamp, the system is compatible with syringes ranging in size from 0.5 μl to 60 ml. It also features adjustable force control, safety switches, and stall detection. The single pump driver can operate in infusion and withdrawal modes making it ideal for any application that requires control over one solution at a time.

Our single syringe pump comes with a two-year warranty, free worldwide shipping, and priority dispatch.

Single Syringe Pump Features

Precision Pump Motion

Precision Motion

The Single Syringe Pump uses the same high-quality motors and our unique driver technology as the Ossila Dip Coater and Ossila Slot Die Coater. This provides over 12,000 steps per revolution of the motor, providing smooth motion and enabling ultra-low dispense rates and volumes with incredible accuracy.

The high precision motor makes the system ideal for highly sensitive experiments that require precise liquid dispensing at a controlled rate. With the motor and driver working perfectly together with the in-built software, you can control the speed of the pump with ease.

Universal Syringe Clamp

Broad Syringe Compatibility

Our universal syringe clamp is designed to allow the system to use a wide variety of syringes, from 0.5 μl to 60 ml in volume. The Ossila syringe pump range is compatible with syringes from all major brands.

For most applications, we recommend Norm-Ject Disposable Luer Lock Syringes. These are solvent-resistant, disposable laboratory syringes made solely from virgin-grade polypropylene plastic. We have found them to offer the best performance for solution preparation and dispensing.

Single Pump Control

Programmable for Intuitive Control

With built-in software and memory, the syringe pump can store up to 10 programs, each of which can have up to 100 steps. Thanks to the front panel controls and screen, the single syringe pump can function perfectly without external controls.

We designed this software to give our customers the flexibility to run experiments with ease, while maintaining complete control. The interface is simple, so you can expect a user-friendly experience even when programming complicated routines.

Dual Syringe Pump

  • Dual Syringe Control
  • Infusion and Withdrawal Mode

Norm-Ject Disposable Luer Lock Syringes

Norm-Ject Disposable Luer Lock Syringes

The Ossila Single Syringe Pump includes 6 x Norm-Ject Disposable Luer Lock Syringes 6 ml. Made out of virgin-grade polypropylene plastic, these are high-quality disposable syringes that are ideal for solution preparation and filtration, especially with solutions that are incompatible with rubber seals.

Applications

Many experiments require either precision timing or a slow and controlled hours-long dispense of solutions to produce repeatable and reliable results.

Syringe pumps are often used in the processing of perovskite structures. A syringe pump can be used to dispense a non-solvent at a precise time for perovskite anti-quenching during spin coating, and for perovskite single-crystal growth in a solution, a solvent can be added slowly over a period of several days.

Other possible applications include:

  • Solution dispensing
  • Solution mixing
  • Emulsification
  • Metered coatings
  • Automated spin coating
  • Solution quenching
  • Electrospinning
  • Electrospraying
  • Microfluidics
  • Flow chemistry

Rate Accuracy** ±3%

* The maximum speed can exceed the value stated above dependent upon solution viscosity, syringe diameter, tube/needle diameter, and tube/needle length.

** The Ossila Single Syringe Pump has a stepping accuracy of 0.16%, which gives a rate accuracy of 19 nm.s-1. However, in practice, the accuracy of the flow rate from a syringe pump depends on the accuracy of both the driver and the syringe diameter. Different syringes have different manufacturing tolerances. Plastic disposable syringes can have diameters that vary by up to 3%, resulting in an error in dispense rate of up to 6%. Glass and stainless steel syringes have a higher tolerance, with a maximum of 0.5% variation in the internal diameter and volume error of up to 1%.

Maximum & Minimum Flow Rate

The maximum and minimum flow rates of the syringe pump is determined by both the stepping rate of the motor and the diameter of the syringe. Maximum and minimum flow rates for some common syringe sizes are shown below. By choosing the correct syringe diameter, it is possible to achieve a range of dispense rates spanning 8 orders of magnitude.

Syringe Volume Syringe Diameter Minimum Flow Rate Maximum Flow Rate
0.5 µl 0.103 mm 0.1 nl.s-1 (0.14 µl.hr-1) 41 nl.s-1 (0.15 ml.hr-1)
10 µl 0.46 mm 1.98 nl.s-1 (6.8 µl.hr-1) 0.83 µl.s-1 (3 ml.hr-1)
100 µl 1.46 mm 19 nl.s-1 (68 µl.hr-1) 8.3 µl.s-1 (29.8 ml.hr-1)
1 ml 4.61 mm 0.2 µl.s-1 (0.72 ml.hr-1) 83 µl.s-1 (298 ml.hr-1)
5 ml 10.3 mm 1 µl.s-1 (3.6 ml.hr-1) 0.42 ml.s-1 (1.5 l.hr-1)
50 ml 32.6 mm 10 µl.s-1 (36 ml.hr-1) 4.17 ml.s-1 (15 l.hr-1)

What is a Syringe Pump? What is a Syringe Pump?

Syringe pumps, or syringe drivers, are motorised devices that accurately control the movement of a fluid from a syringe by mechanically inserting or retracting the plunger. Syringe pumps feature stepper motors which can accurately move a platform attached to the plunger of a syringe.
