Fully programmable dual syringe pump

Precision dual syringe pump with two channels for independent control of fluids

Ossila Dual Syringe Pump

The Ossila Dual Syringe Pump is two laboratory syringe pumps in one. Each pump can be controlled independently and operated in either infusion or withdrawal mode. Not only does this provide a large amount of flexibility, but it also makes it simple and easy to undertake complex experiments.

An affordable, versatile piece of processing equipment that makes no compromise in quality, we designed our dual syringe pump around the same precision stepper motors that can be found in the Ossila Dip Coater and Ossila Slot-Die Coater. Fully featured built-in software and an intuitive interface together deliver effortless experiments.

The dual pump syringe pump features a universal syringe clamp and channel independent safety switches and stall detection. Additionally, the dual syringe pump comes with a two-year warranty, free shipping, and priority dispatch.

Looking to use the dual pump syringe pump as part of your thin film fabrication process? Consider the syringe pump bundle, which comes with our award-winning spin coater. This customisable bundle offers incredible value for money, giving you the option to purchase our spin coater with either the single or dual syringe pump with accessories.

Product Features

Universal Syringe Clamp

Dual Syringe Channels

The Ossila Dual Syringe Pump has two syringe channels. Each can be controlled independently, so you can dispense solutions at different rates, withdraw and infuse simultaneously, or alternate between different solutions.

By having two independent pumps, The Ossila Dual Syringe pump offers greater potential for complex experiments and applications.

Precision Pump Motion

Precision Motion

Our syringe pumps feature high-quality stepper motors and driver technology which is capable of more than 12,000 steps per revolution. The dual pump model uses two motors so that each can be operated completely independently of the other. As a result, it can provide seamless motion of both pumps and is able to precisely deliver ultra-low volumes of solutions The dual pump syringe pump is ideal for performing highly sensitive experiments with great complexity.

You can find the same high precision stepper motors in the Ossila Dip Coater and the Ossila Slot-Die Coater, which has an integrated syringe pump to control the flow of solution to the slot-die head and ensure an even coating.

Independent Pump Control

Syringe Compatibility

Our syringe pumps feature universal syringe clamps which accept syringe sizes ranging from 0.5 μl to 60 ml.

We generally recommend Norm-Ject Disposable Luer Lock Syringes. These tried and tested, high-quality syringes are compatible with both our syringe pumps. The Norm-Ject syringes are solvent-resistant and are perfect for solution infusion and solution dispensing, including with acids and chlorinated solvents. Luer lock attachments make it easy to attach needles, syringe filters, and PTFE tubing.

Dual Pump Control

Intuitive Controls

With built-in software and a large memory capacity, you can program your syringe pump using the simple-to-use interface to perform complex tasks without the need for a computer.

The dual syringe pump can store up to 10 programs, each of which is able to execute up to 100 steps. This gives a large degree of flexibility, even where lab space and equipment is shared.

Applications

Many experiments require either precision timing or a slow and controlled hours-long dispense of solutions to produce repeatable and reliable results.

Syringe pumps are often used in the processing of perovskite structures. A syringe pump can be used to dispense a non-solvent at a precise time for perovskite anti-quenching during spin coating, and for perovskite single-crystal growth in a solution, a solvent can be added slowly over a period of several days.

Other possible applications include:

  • Solution dispensing
  • Solution mixing
  • Emulsification
  • Metered coatings
  • Automated spin coating
  • Solution quenching
  • Electrospinning
  • Electrospraying
  • Microfluidics
  • Flow chemistry

Included with the Dual Syringe Pump

Norm-Ject Disposable Luer Lock Syringes

Norm-Ject Disposable Luer Lock Syringes

The Ossila Dual Syringe Pump includes 6 x Norm-Ject Disposable Luer Lock Syringes 6 ml. Made out of virgin-grade polypropylene plastic, these are high-quality disposable syringes that are ideal for solution preparation and filtration, especially with solutions that are incompatible with rubber seals.

What is a Syringe Pump?

What is a Syringe Pump?

Syringe pumps, or syringe drivers, are motorised devices that accurately control the movement of a fluid from a syringe by mechanically inserting or retracting the plunger. Syringe pumps feature stepper motors which can accurately move a platform attached to the plunger of a syringe.

How do Syringe Pumps Work?

Syringe pumps are electromechanical devices which are designed to convert rotational motion to linear motion. This linear motion can then be used to drive the plunger of a syringe and deliver a precise amount of solution.

* The maximum speed can exceed the value stated above dependent upon solution viscosity, syringe diameter, tube/needle diameter, and tube/needle length.

** The Ossila Dual Syringe Pump has a stepping accuracy of 0.16%, which gives a rate accuracy of 19 nm.s-1. However, in practice, the accuracy of the flow rate from a syringe pump depends on the accuracy of both the driver and the syringe diameter. Different syringes have different manufacturing tolerances. Plastic disposable syringes can have diameters that vary by up to 3%, resulting in an error in dispense rate of up to 6%. Glass and stainless steel syringes have a higher tolerance, with a maximum of 0.5% variation in the internal diameter and volume error of up to 1%.

Maximum & Minimum Flow Rate

The maximum and minimum flow rates of the syringe pump is determined by both the stepping rate of the motor and the diameter of the syringe. Maximum and minimum flow rates for some common syringe sizes are shown below. By choosing the correct syringe diameter, it is possible to achieve a range of dispense rates spanning 8 orders of magnitude.

Syringe Volume Syringe Diameter Minimum Flow Rate Maximum Flow Rate
0.5 µl 0.103 mm 0.1 nl.s-1 (0.14 µl.hr-1) 41 nl.s-1 (0.15 ml.hr-1)
10 µl 0.46 mm 1.98 nl.s-1 (6.8 µl.hr-1) 0.83 µl.s-1 (3 ml.hr-1)
100 µl 1.46 mm 19 nl.s-1 (68 µl.hr-1) 8.3 µl.s-1 (29.8 ml.hr-1)
1 ml 4.61 mm 0.2 µl.s-1 (0.72 ml.hr-1) 83 µl.s-1 (298 ml.hr-1)
5 ml 10.3 mm 1 µl.s-1 (3.6 ml.hr-1) 0.42 ml.s-1 (1.5 l.hr-1)
