Video: How to Make Efficient Perovskite Devices Inside a Glove box

This video is a guide on how to make perovskite films when processed inside a nitrogen filled glove box. The resultant devices achieve efficiencies greater than 11%.

The demonstrated procedure utilises our perovskite ink optimised for processing inside a glovebox on a PEDOT:PSS coated ITO substrate. The device process is similar to our perovskite ink for air processing, with the other steps required demonstrated in our full perovskite fabrication guide.

The ink is comprised of a mixture of PbCl2:PbI2:MAI at a molar ratio of 1:1:4 respectively in a DMF solvent. To achieve a perovskite film, follow the below steps:

  • Place a room temperature PEDOT:PSS coated substrate onto the spin coater chuck
  • Spin at 4000 rpm and dispense 30 μl of room temperature perovskite ink
  • Place the substrate onto a 80°C hotplate and heat for 90 minutes
  • After this time, use a cleaning swab dipped in DMF to remove material from the cathode areas
  • Heat for another 20-30 minutes to remove any residual solvent

The structure of the finished perovskite device is as follows:

ITO / PEDOT:PSS / CH3NH3PbI3-xClx / PC70BM / Ca / Al

We have reached an average peak power conversion efficiency of 11.8% with the I201 ink using this fabrication routine. We expect to see our customers match and exceed these numbers with further experimentation, and have therefore created this video to help you kick-start your research programme and immediately create high performance perovskite solar cells.
